Pay per click (ppc) marketing is the absolute fastest, and most targeted way to drive traffic to your
website. You might be optimizing a website for months or even years and still not show up on the first page of the big 3
search engines (Google, Yahoo, MSN). And then you create a ppc campaign, show up on the first page, and targetted traffic
starts pouring in within minutes.
Nothing beats free, organic search engine traffic, don't get me wrong. But if I can spend $1 to make $2 I
will keep doing that every day (and night), and will continue doing that as long as I'm making profit. In the meantime, I
can optimize my pages so that I can also gain free search engine traffic. While I'm waiting for the free search engine
traffic to arrive, I continue paying for it, as long as I'm making more than I spend.
Here are the big 3 of pay per click traffic:
1. Google Adwords
2. Overture/Yahoo Search Marketing
3. Miva
Google Adwords is the number 1 ppc search engine. Typically, most marketers find it easier to make money
with Adwords, than they do with Overture and Miva.
The competition can be fierce for certain markets, however, and you might want to focus on Yahoo's Overture.
(you are buying traffic from Overture, but you show up on Yahoo and Yahoo's search partner's) For example, right now I focus on a
niche market where I can't seem to make it profitable using Adwords but I can using Overture.
However, that market is only the exception to the rule. Ideally, if you find a hot market you should hit all 3
ppc players. But you should start with Adwords, and then if you have the budget try Overture, and lastly try Miva for
additional traffic, if you can make it profitable.
It makes sense, that you should keep paying for something, as long as you are making more than you are
spending. That is why it is essential to track all your campaings separately, so that you know what makes you profits and
what loses you money, so that you can get rid of unprofitable campaigns.
I every day (that's why the majority of them quit ppc), but you'll become an Adwords'
expert as you keep implementing his strategies and coming up with your own as you go.
